The ender
family that married into the Blaies family is from the
village of Mühlhousen, Baden. Previously they were from
Rettigheim, Baden, Germany (20 miles South of Heidelberg,
Baden). My branch of the family settled in the Kimswick, MO area and
in Chrondelet, South St. Louis, MO in 1854. My great grandmother Theresia
Blaies, nee Bender, 1833--1898, settled in Mascoutah, St. Clair
County, IL about 10 miles east of St. Louis with her husband, Jean
Michael Blaies, 1822--1902, in 1864. They were married in
Arnold, MO in 1856. Other Benders settled in O'Fallon,
IL in the late 1800s. They were farmers in Germany, laborers in St.
Louis, MO and farmers in Illinois.

The international tribute to the Germans is their uniqueness of
industriousness.
