3. Martin McTernan, c 1814--, born in the townland of Corratawy, Killargue parish, Co Leitrim

3.1. Charles McTiernan, 1844--1933, born in the townland of Corratawy, Killargue parish, Co Leitrim was listed as a farmer in the 1901 census of Ireland. Corratawy is on the southern border of Sheskin. Charles married Anne Clarke, 1856--1946. Anne was born in Gortermone, Killargue, Drumahaire, Co Leitrim. Charles had an older brother by the name of 3.2. John McTernan, <1843--, who had immigrated to London, England and joined the police force. Charles and Anne are buried in the old Cemetery behind the Chapel of Killargue. [both 3.1 and 3.2 are in the T3a DNA group] Charles and Anne had the following nine children,

3.1.1. Alice McTernan, 1880--, born in the townland of Corratawy, Killargue parish and immigrated to America.

3.1.2. John McTernan, 1882--, born in the townland of Corratawy, Killargue parish. Married with one son,

3.1.3. James McTernan, 1884--, born in the townland of Corratawy, Killargue parish and immigrated to America.

3.1.4. Martin McTernan, 1892--1968, born in the townland of Corratawy, Killargue parish was known as Matt. While he was a farmer in his later days he had been a newspaperman on the Sligo Champion or Nationalist working with his kinsman, 1.4.6. Bernard McTiernan [from 3.1.4.4. John C. McTernan book, "In Sligo Long Ago" , page 612]. Before the newspaper Matt had joined the Hong Kong police and spent seven years there before returning to Ireland in 1927 where he married Mary Helena McHugh and had four children. They are,

3.1.4.1. Maura McTernan, c 1927--, born in the townland of Drumlaheen, Barony of Tirerrill, Co Sligo and died within a year of her birth.

3.1.4.2. Kevin McTernan, 1928--1982, born in the townland of Drumlaheen, Barony of Tirerrill, Co Sligo.

3.1.4.3. James McTernan, 1929--1999, born in the townland of Drumlaheen, Barony of Tirerrill, Co Sligo. Married with wife's name unknown.

3.1.4.4. John C. McTernan, c. 1930--2023, born in the townland of Drumlaheen, Barony of Tirerrill, Co Sligo and died at the Sligo Hospotal on xx-xx-2023. In 1991, John was the Chief Librarian at the Co. Sligo Library in Sligo City. John wrote several really good historical books on Sligo and Leitrim.

3.1.5. Mary McTernan, 1892--, born in the townland of Corratawy, Killargue parish.

3.1.6. Margaret McTernan, 1894--, born in the townland of Corratawy, Killargue parish and listed in the 1901 Irish census as Maggie. Her nickname may have been Minnie as there was a Minnie buried with 3.1. Charles and his wife Anne Clarke in the old Cemetery behind the Chapel of Killargue.

3.1.7. Kate McTernan, 1896--, born in the townland of Corratawy, Killargue parish.

3.1.8. Elizabeth McTernan, 1900--, born in the townland of Corratawy, Killargue parish and immigrated to America.

3.1.9. Charles McTernan, born in the townland of Corratawy, Killargue parish.

3.2. John McTernan, <1843--, had moved to London, England and joined the police force there. John was definitely the brother of 3.1. Charles McTiernan, 1844--1933.

Listed in the 1901 Irish Census as living in the townland of Corratawy is an Owen McTernan, 1841--, his wife Mary, 1846--, and a daughter, Alice, 1883--.
