ates of
heskin
The historic gates to enter the Townland of Sheskin. They were given to John McTernan, 1874--1949, as payment for a debt. Over the top of the gates you can see the roofless remains of the family castle on the 25 acres of land. It is a two room rock and mud house that measures 12 by 18 feet. Until the 1890s, it housed two adults and four young men in their twenties.
Sheskin in Gaelic means marsh.
