Below are almost 200 ancestors of the Fries family, in the Christina Deppisch line. It goes back 19 generations to 1395 as of 2019. Some of the individuals are listed two or more times as happens when 1st and 2nd cousins marry as they did in our family history. Even though the German Catholic Church had a strict rule against marriages between 1st and 2nd cousins it appears that our ancestors thought obtaining sufficient land for their kids was more important. Without land you could not marry and have a family. So, the village matchmaker went to work to set up the marriage dowery while the kids could not yet even walk. If the two families were related, then the marriage agreement was more likely much fairer.

Some names have changed over time and several generations. Kraß to Kraus is an example of this. The ß is the German letter for "ss". Kraß is pronounced Krauss. Also: kraß is a German word meaning crass / blatant / gross
