1.2.2.1.4.3.8.8.  Jakob Koser, 7-22-1821--8-8-1892, the eighth of eleven children of Maria Regina Neff and Johannes Koser born in Langenbrücken and died in Blumenau, Brazil.  One of a few of our ancestors that immigrated south instead of north, west or east.  In Langenbrücken c. 1855,  Jakob Koser married Barbara Weick, c. 1836--. 

1.2.2.1.4.3.11.6. Andreas Schmitt, 12-31-1823-->1861, the sixth of eight children of Maria Cäzilia Neff and Peter Schmitt born in Rettigheim. Andreas was a soldier and user in the revolution of 1848/49, went then in 1861 to America. This revolution started in France and spread across Europe and was one of the major causes of emigration as it was for my four European families as they all immigrated between 1848 and 1856. Andreas Schmitt is my Bender / Blaies generation's 6th cousin, 3 generations removed.

On 6-3-1771 in Rettigheim, Maria Katharina Neff married 1.1.2.1.3.5. Johann (es) Adam Bender, 5-28-1748--, who was born in Rettigheim but died in Hungary. Maria Katharina emigrates with her husband, the shoemaker Joh. Adam Bender to Serbia, probably in the Banat, at that time Serbian, today Hungary. Why both went to Hungary with a family of 12 to feed needs to be understood as it seems like it is way out of the norm.

1.2.3.4.4. Johann Martin Metzger, 9-9-1726-->1760, the fourth of eight children of Maria Elizabeth Bender and Johann Friedrich Metzger born in Rettigheim, Baden. Johann Martin was married in Wien in 1760, wife's name unknown. Wien I think translates to Vienna and in 1750 the family emigrated to Wien and then Böhmen or Bohemia, CZ.

On 10-24-1872 in Rettigheim, Stefan Reiss married 1.1.2.3.4.8.7.3.7.  Susanna Reiss, 1-15-1851--, the seventh of eleven children of Susanna Kretz and Johann Michael Reiss born in Rettigheim but died in America. Stefan and his wife emigrated to America in 1891. He was a weaver and a farmer and lived at Rotenberger Str. 7/9. The entire family emigrates in 1891 to North America. Stefan Reiss and Susanna Reiss had seven children.

Friederika Weindel, 1840--, was born in Baden, Germany. Johann Georg Dumbeck was a brick mason in Illinois and Friederika was keeping house. Johann Georg Dumbeck and Friederika Weindel had seven children.

In 1929 in America, Otto Kleinlagel married 1.2.6.2.3.2.1.3.5.1.3.  Johanna Maria Kamuf, 8-12-1906--5-22-1990, who was born in Rettigheim and died in America.

The fifth of seven children of Maria Rosa Kleinlagel and Georg Ludwig Bender.  Jakob Bender most likely immigrated to St. Louis, MO where as of 1893 he belonged to the Badisch Benevolent Society of St. Louis, MO.  Jakob may have died between 1893 and 1900 as there are no additional records found.

1.2.3.7.1.4.8.1. Georg Philipp Bender, 7-27-1833-->1865, the first of nine children of Rupert Bender and Maria Antonia Schritz born in Rettigheim. He emigrated to America in 1865.

1.2.3.7.1.4.8.2.4.2.5. Melitta Zacher, nee Kamuf, 7-5-1928--, the fifth of six children of Hildegard Brückmann and Stefan Kamuf born in Rettigheim. Immigrated to America and married Joe Zacher on 7-27-1957.

1.2.3.7.1.4.8.2.4.2.6. Hildegard Schmidberger, nee Kamuf, 9-12-1931--1993, the sixth of six children of Hildegard Brückmann and Stefan Kamuf born in Rettigheim. Hildegard Kamuf married Hans Schmidberger on 7-29-1961 and had at least one child.  Hildegard immigrated to America.

Before Josef immigrated to America and died there, he was a wagoner in the town of Rauenberg, Baden. Josef Bender married Lina Wiedemann, 2-8-1849--7-5-1928, on 1-24-1869 in Rettigheim. Lina Wiedemann was born in Forst bei Bruchsal, Baden and died in Rettigheim the daughter of Johann Wiedemann and Elisabeth Bacher. Josef Bender and Lina Wiedemann had seven children.

Ferdinand Anton Bender, 9-12-1849--7-20-1910, the fourth of ten children of Martin Bender and Elisabeth Reiss born and died in Mühlhausen / Rettigheim, Kraichgau-Rettigheim, Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, Baden-Württenberg, Germany.   On 4-24-1874 in Mühlhausen, Ferdinand Anton Bender married Amalie Sauer, 10-28-1854--9-5-1937,  who was born and died in Mühlhausen, Baden.  Amalie Sauer's parents were Johann Georg Sauer, 1-8-1815--7-28-1884, and Franziska Burkhart, 3-5-1821--6-18-1866 both born and died in Mühlhausen.  Franziska Burkhart's mother was Cäcilia Rachel, 1787--1834, from Mühlhausen. Amalie Sauer had a brother by the name of Andreas Sauer  that emigrated to America and was lost track of.

Maria Anna Göbel, nee Bender, 8-25-1808--, the first of Johann Michael Bender's and Maria Juliana Kleinlagel's nine children born in Rettigheim, Baden and immigrated to America most likely after Gabriel died. On 5-12-1834 in Rettigheim, Maria Anna Bender married Gabriel Göbel, 3-3-1807--3-22-1856,  who was born in Rettigheim and the son of Johann Jakob Göbel and Margarete Förderer.

1.2.3.7.1.14.1.6.  Karl Göbel,  3-14-1847-->1856, the sixth of seven children of Maria Anna Bender and Gabriel Göbel born in Rettigheim and died in Philadelphia, PA.  Karl immigrated to Philadelphia and on 4-3-1883 in Philadelphia, Karl Göbel married Elisabeth Essig, 2-1857-->1930, who was born and died in Philadelphia, PA.  Elisabeth Essig's parents were Jacob Essig, 1826--<1900,  and Antonia Mauer, 1824--<1900, who also immigrated to Philadelphia. Jacob was born in Wuttenberg, Baden and Antonia was born in Baden.

1.2.3.7.4.4.8.1.1.  German Buchmueller, 6-28-1858--, the first of ten children of Sybilla Bender and Bernhard Buchmueller born in Östringen. After Sybilla Bender died, Bernhard Buchmueller would go on to have an additional seven children by Franziska Mohr.  German Buchmueller immigrated to America settling in Arkansas and then died in Virginia.

1.4.3.2.3.2.3.1.4. Karl Wittmeier, 3-27-1853--10-25-1923, born and died in Rettigheim. The fourth of ten children of Thaddäus Wittmeier and Christina Förderer. Karl immigrated to Belleville, IL, USA in 1872.  Karl married a Josephine Heigenstein.

1.4.3.2.3.2.3.1.7.1.13. Benno Gregor Werstein, 3-12-1927--8-7-2006, born in Rettigheim and died in Los Angeles, CA. The 13th of fourteen children of Elisabeth Förderer and Stefan Werstein. Benno immigrated to America and worked for both his brothers, Fred and Christian.

1.4.3.3.6.1. Johann Michael Bös, 1-22-1753--, the first of eleven children of Anna Maria Bayer and Johann Bös born in Rettigheim. Johann Michael Bös married in Malsch and emigrated to America.

1.4.7.2.2.1.2.2.  Brigitta Hammer, nee Laier, 10-12-1813-->1839, the second of six children of Eva Katharina Menges and Johann Philipp Laier born and died in Rauenberg.  Immigrated to Amerika. On 8-17-1837 in Rauenberg, Brigitta Laier married Johann Wilhelm Hammer, 12-31-1795-->1839, who was born in Mingolsheim and died in Amerika after he and his wife had immigrated.

1.4.7.2.2.1.4.  Maria Eva Bayer, nee Kirstein, nee Menges, 4-24-1793--3-19-1852, the fourth of ten children of  Johann Adam Menges and Maria Anna Spannagel born in Rauenberg and died in Ubstadt.  On 4-11-1815 in Rauenberg, Maria Eva Menges married Johann Martin Kirstein, 7-8-1788--3-18-1825, who was born and died in Ubstadt.  Maria Eva Menges and Johann Martin Kirstein had  two children.   On 9-24-1832 in Ubstadt, Maria Eva Menges married Maximilian August Bayer, 8-28-1808--1854, who was born in Ubstadt, emigrated and died in Amerika. 

1.4.7.2.4.5.8.2.3.  Heinrich Bernhard Klefenz, 3-22-1868--1893,  the third of three children of Wendelin Klefenz and Juliane Regina Barth born in Esslingen and died in Philadelphia. Heinrich was a copper smith and immigrated in 1888. Sometime before 1888 in Esslingen, Heinrich Bernhard Klefenz married Katharina Elisabeth Margarethe Barth, 1-27-1868--12-30-1934, who was born and died in Aglaterhausen.

1.1.2.1.3.5. Johann Adam Bender, 5-28-1748--, the fifth of nine children of Johannes Adam Bender and Eva Katharina Eschelbacher born in Rettigheim but died in Hungary. He was a shoemaker and had lived at Rotenberger Str. 24/26. On 6-3-1771 in Rettigheim, Johannes Adam Bender married 1.2.2.1.4.4. Maria Katharina Neff, 4-16-1751--, who was born in Rettigheim and died in Hungary.   Maria Catharina Neff was the daughter of Johann Neff and Anna Rudolf. Maria Katharina emigrated with her husband, the shoemaker Joh. Adam Bender to Serbia, probably in the Banat, at that time Serbian, today Hungary. The remaining family emigrates 1790 to Serbia, together with his brother Franz and their family.

On 5-17-1779 in Rettigheim, Franz Bender married [Anna Barbara] Catharina Barbara Krug, 3-17-1743--, born in Mingolsheim and died in Hungary. Catharina was the daughter of Jakob Krug. The family immigrates to Hungary in 1790. On 5-24-1784 Franz Bender sells to his brother Adam his half house with scrubs, sable, celler and Brunne for 150 Guldens. Franz Bender and Catharina Barbara Krug had five children.

1.1.2.1.5.1.2.8.12. Heinrich Haag, 10-4-1865-->1882, the twelfth of thirteen children of Wendelin Haag and Thekla Schwarz born in Rauenberg and emigrated to Amerika after 1882.

1.1.2.1.6.1.3.5.4. Juliana Viktoria Reiss, nee Metzger, 1-10-1831-->1852, the fourth of ten children of Barbara Wagner and Johann Nikolaus Metzger born in Rettigheim died in Highland, IL area. Juliana Victoria Metzger married Daniel Reiss, 3-27-1822-->1852, on 11-7-1850 in Rettigheim. Daniel Reiss, a farmer was born in Rettigheim and was the son of Franz Reiss and Eva Grösser. According to the local German records, Daniel Reiss and Juliana Victoria Metzger at 21 years of age emigrated in 1852 to South America with their one year old daughter. But they all ended up in Highland, IL, having 2 more children and then dying there. Without knowing for sure it may be that they first went to South America and then to Illinois. They also may have told everyone in Rettigheim that they were going to South America and then at the port of departure changed their minds and emigrated to Madison Co, IL. No way to know for sure but the Rettigheim books say for certain that they left for South America. They had at least three children listed below.

1.1.2.1.6.1.3.5.17.1.3. Augustin Metzger, 5-20-1927--, the third of five children of Otto Metzger and Maria Margaretha Bender born in Rettigheim. Augustin immigrated to Canada and became a naturalized Canadian.  On 12-24-1963 in Canada, Augustin Metzger married Eleanor Ann Valentine, 12-6-1924--2-10-2007, who was an American.  They moved to the US in 1970.

1.1.2.1.6.1.3.9.6.5.3. Karl Göbel, 3-5-1910--, the third of eight children of Theodore Göbel and Margarete Josefa Haberkorn born in Rettigheim, immigrated to Detroit, MI and died there.

1.1.2.1.6.1.5.5. Maria Theresia Reiss, 4-11-1808-->1844, the fifth of seven children of Maria Katharina Barbara Werstein and Georg Michael Reiss born in Rettigheim. Maria Theresia Reiss immigrated to America in 1844.

1.1.2.1.6.1.5.6. Matthias Reiss, 6-22-1811--, the sixth of seven children of Maria Katharina Werstein and Georg Michael Reiss born in Rettigheim. Matthias may also have emigrated to Amerika.

1.1.2.1.6.2.1.2. Sebastian Holzinger, 1-20-1812--7-7-1893, the second of five children of Lorenz Holzinger and Catharina Willmann born in Östringen and died in Madison Co., IL. On 11-19-1840 in Östringen, Sebastian Holzinger married Maria Anna Hammer, 1-14-1821--11-14-1892, the daughter of Johannes Hammer and Barbara Stadtmüller born in Östringen and died in Madison Co., IL. Sebastian's obituary from Highland Union, Highland, IL, dated 12 7-1893, printed in German, showed that he and his wife left Östringen in 1845 to come to America. Sebastian Holzinger and Maria Anna Hammer had nine children, not all are known at this point in time.

She was born in Östringen and died in Highland, Madison Co., IL. Highland Journal (IL) Thursday 28 Dec 1911: ELIZABETH Holzinger , 69 yrs 9 mos and 5 days, died Tuesday pm. Buried in St. Joseph Cem. Born 19 Mar 1842 in Östringen, Bruchsal, Baden, Germany came to America 5-1866 direct to Highland Married 7 5-1867 Martin Holzinger.

Juliana Braun was born on a farm 2 miles east of Highland, Madison Co., IL, and died at her home, 3-1/2 miles east of Highland, Madison Co., IL.

On 2-19-1884 in Madison Co., IL, John Holzinger married Louisa Willmann, 1863--5-9-1940, the daughter of John Willmann and Elisabeth Förderer. She was born in Illinois and died in Highland, IL.

1.1.2.1.6.2.5.3. Anton Linenfelser, 8-15-1818--8-8-1890, the third of eight children of Margaretha Holzinger and Johann Friedrich Linenfelser, born in Östringen, Baden. Anton is the American immigrant of Charles Linenfelser family line who settled in Highland, Madison Co, IL where he died in 1890. Anton Linenfelser married Salome Habich, 4-13-1820--9-11-1891, on 2-3-1845, who was the daughter of Johannes Habich and Elisabetha Kessler. Salome was born in Östringen and died in Madison Co., IL.  Anton Linenfelser, his wife  Salome Habich, her parents Martin and Elisabetha (nee Kessler) Habich, her  brothers and sister Pius, Joseph, and Prisca, Anton's sister Genovefa, and  Anton's and Salome's daughter Theresa were all on one ship Damascus arriving at  the port of New Orleans on 6-26-1846.  Acording to Judy Linenfelser most likely some of Anton's maternal  line cousins were also on the same ship same passage. 

1.1.2.2.3.1.1.1. Elisabeth Fellhauer, nee Förderer, 9-21-1821--c. 1875, the first of three children of Johannes Sebastian Förderer and Maria Eva Hammer born in Östringen. On 1-11-1842 in Östringen, Elisabeth Förderer married Johann Matthias Fellhauer, 1-7-1811--9-10-1884, who was born in Östringen and died in Madison CO, IL and who was the son of Johann Nicholas Fellhauer and Maria Theresia Hoffmann. Johann Matthias Fellhauer was about 34 and Elisabeth Förderer was listed as 24 when they left Rotterdam, Germany in November 1845 arriving in New Orleans March 18, 1846 aboard the ship Chesapeake. Their crossing of the Atlantic Ocean took 96 days, which had to be some sort of a record, at least in our immigrant family history. Elisabeth Förderer and Johannes Matthias Fellhauer immigrated to Madison Co, IL in 1846 and owned a tailor shop on Main St. in Highland, IL.

The whole family immigrated on 10.06.1790. Johann Georg Bender and Maria Barbara Gross had three children. Their children were 5, 4 and 2 years old at the time of immigration. Peter enlisted in the American Civil War on 8-15-1862 in Riga, Michigan. At the time of his enlistment, he was 33 years old and served with the Michigan Volunteers until his honorable discharge on 10-6-1864 from injuries. He died on 1-10-1887 from ingesting Paris Green.
