Frederick Chase who hired Charles McTernan was a manufacturer of brass goods...he must have owned a factory in Waterbury or thereabouts.
Must have been a huge house on 165 Grove Street because they had loads of servants. He did have two sons: Augustus 13 and Edmond 12.

The two mentioned were Merriman and Dr. Munger. The Merrimans were in the banking industry. No data on Dr. Munge

Charles McTernan on 1900 Foxboro census, Norfolk Co. MA census, he is unmarried at this time, only 18, born May, 1882, in MA.
his father: John H. McTernan, 45 years old a farmer born in MA. his father from Ireland.
John H.'s wife Eliza, 44, born April 1856, born in England, came to US in 1866.
other child was a female. Jessie E. McTernan born Oct. 1891, 8 yrs old in 1900. born MA.
John H. McTernan's mother and sister lived with them.
Mother: Aurelia A. McTernan, born Jan 1816, age 84, born Maine

John's sister Almira B. Clapp, a widow, born Oct. 1848, age 51, born MA.

1910 census shows Charles McTernan and his wife. He was a teacher (Concord School?) on Wood Street, Concord, county of Middlesex, MA. He was 27 years old. His mother was born in England and his father was born in MA. Charles' occupation - teacher in private school-Concord School. His wife's name was Isabel.

1930 Census finds them in the same house on Columbia Blvd., Waterbury, CT. the value of the  house, $ 25,000 and they owned a radio

Charles McTernan was married twice, his first wife died around 1931/32....he remarried a woman named Clara Lee   This Clara was very active in providing a birth control clinic to the women of Waterbury.

Also, looks like the Chase family and the McTernans were friends for a very long time because two of the Chase daughters were also involved in the setting up of the clinic.  There was opposition to it from the Catholic Church in Waterbury.
