Charles was a bachelor and died in Walpole, MA in 1916 living with his neice Sarah Agnes Clinton, nee McTernan and her husband Hugh Clinton, 6-1855--1923, along with their 3 children. Hugh and Sarah Clinton were married in MA in 1882. Charles was buried at the family plot at St. Mary's Cemetery in Foxbourgh, MA. His brother, the immigrant Patrick McTernan and his wife Aurelia Clapp, nee Allen were married in Foxbourgh on 3-21-1852. Patrick's naturalization was at USCC in Boston on 5-7-1855 which papers listed Co Leitrim as their residence in Ireland. Immigration date arrival in Boston 8-10-1849.

John Henry McTernan, 1855--1919, born in MA married Elizabeth Huckle in Foxborough, MA on 11-24-1880.

Frederick Chase of Waterbury, CT hired Charles to tutor his sons. Frederick Chase was a manufacturer of brass goods... must have owned a factory in Waterbury or thereabouts with a huge house on 165 Grove Street with lot of servants. He did have two sons: Augustus 13 and Edmond 12.

Charles McTernan on the 1900 Foxboro, Norfolk Co. MA census is unmarried at this time, only 18, born May, 4, 1882, in MA. His father: John Henry, 45 years old is a farmer born in MA. John Henry's father, Patrick was born in Co Leitrim, Ireland. John Henry's wife Eliza Huckle, 44, born April 1856, in England, came to U.S. in 1866. Their other child was a female, Jessie E. born Oct. 1891, 8 yrs old in 1900. born in MA. John H. McTernan's mother and sister lived with them.

The 1910 census shows Charles McTernan and his wife. He was a teacher (Concord School?) on Wood street, Concord, County of Middlesex, MA. He was 27 years old. Charles' mother was born in England and his father, John Henry was born in MA. Charles' Occupation - teacher in private school-Concord School. His wife's name was Isabel Winn. Dr. John Winn McTernan, PhD took her family name as a middle name.

The 1920 census for Waterbury, CT had the family living at 106 Columbia Blvd, Waterbury, CT. Charles McTernan born in Massachusetts and was a principal in private school. The 1930 Census finds them in the same house on Columbia Blvd., Waterbury, CT. The value of the house $25,000 and they owned a radio

Charles McT was married twice, his first wife, Isabel Winn died in 1930....he remarried a woman named Clara Lee who was very active in providing a birth control clinic to the women of Waterbury. Clarra Lee, the second wife of Charles was born on 3-19-1899 and died April 1982 in Peekskill, Westchester, New York. Also, looks like the Chase family and the McTernans were friends for a very long time because two of the Chase daughters were also involved in setting up the clinic. There was opposition to it from the Catholic Church in Waterbury.

Dr. John Winn McTernan settled in Sounderland, Bennington Co, Vermont with his wife Shirley McTernan, nee Hoisington and passed away there. John enlisted in the US Army on 8-19-1942 or 10-17-1941 for the duration of the war. In the early 1970s, John gave the last Commencement Address to the graduating class of The McTernan School before they merged with St. Margaret's School the following year.

Donald McTenan, 12-15-1919--8-29-2002 died in France CT SS # 040-24-4430. Donald married Nellie Guerin from France and moved back to America but then in a few years they moved back to France and had three daughters, Regina, Patricia and Angelina. Dr. Reginia Bellier, nee McTernan, MD is a doctor and married to Jacques Bellier. Angeline Lequand is a nurse, married and has two sons noted above. Caroline or Louve as she is known has two children noted above.

There is a possibility that this Michael is the immigrant son of James McTernan of the Norwood, MA McTernan family as both this family and the Norwood McTernan family lived in Foxbourgh, MA for a time.
